Airtel is one of the most popular telecom operators in India, with its extensive coverage and prepaid and postpaid plans. The operator provides GSM, 3G, 4G LTE, and 4G + services along with Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) and Voice-over-Wi-Fi technologies. It offers easy recharge and bill payment options through its native Airtel Thanks app and through third party apps like Google Pay and Paytm. All of this makes Airtel a competitive option to see if you are in the market to port your current number.
Like other telecom operators in the country, Airtel Provides porting for its postpaid and prepaid services. You need Valid address and proof of identity Passport, driving license, voter ID card, ration card or photo credit card to get started with the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service.
In this article, we provide a step-by-step guide to help you port your current mobile number to Airtel prepaid or postpaid service. The process for an intra-circle port-in can take up to 48 hours, while in the case of an inter-circle port-in it can take up to four days. The porting process is expected to take 15 days for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
How to port your mobile number to Airtel Prepaid
Before starting the process, you should easily put your address and ID proofs. You can also get Rs. 100 delivery fee to the Airtel executive who delivers your SIM. Additionally, porting to Airtel will not advance your current balance. This means that you will lose your entire balance after switching to Airtel. The following are the steps to port your mobile number to Airtel Prepaid. You will also find the steps to port to Airtel Postpaid in the next section.
Visit Airtel prepaid site Then select the recharge plan you want to start with the new operator.
Scroll down a bit. You will then see a small form asking for your name, mobile number and location. You will also need to enter your home number and street name to get your Home Customer (KYC) certification.
Now, click Submit Button.
You will now receive a call to schedule an appointment for your SIM delivery.
Once the executive arrives at your location, you will need to generate an eight-character special porting code (UPC) by sending an SMS message “port” and sending your number to 1900. You will receive a code from 1901 via an SMS message. Especially valid for four days (30 days in case of Jammu and Kashmir).
In addition to the code, you must share your address and proof of identity with the executive.
If you do not want to proceed with the online process, you can visit the Airtel store with your address and ID proofs and mobile phone to port your connection. You can Identify Your nearest Airtel store from the operator site.
Airtel offers the opportunity to track MNP progress using the Airtel Thanks app. You can sign in to the app using your port-in number. It allows you to track your progress live on the home screen and activate the new SIM after delivery. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS devices.
How to port your mobile number to Airtel Postpaid
Just like Airtel switched to prepaid, you can port to Airtel postpaid using online or offline methods. However, before you get started, you should easily put in your address and ID proofs.
- Visit Airtel postpaid site And then select a plan.
- Now, click Buy now Button.
- The site will take you to a new page where you will be asked to provide your name and mobile number. It will ask you to enter your house name, house number and your home sink location for KYC certification.
- Now, press Submit Button to send your details for porting.
- Airtel will now call you for SIM delivery.
An Airtel executive will visit your home to deliver the SIM to you and collect your documents. You must also generate eight unique porting codes or UPCs by sending the “port” and your number to 1900. You will receive a code from 1901 via an SMS message. The code is valid for four days (30 days in the case of Jammu and Kashmir). You will need to share that code along with your address and ID proofs with the executive visiting your location.
If you do not want to place your porting request online, you can visit your nearest Airtel store with your credentials and your mobile phone and request MNP Offline. You can also install the Airtel Thanks app to check the status of your MNP request in real time.
