Vi (Vodafone Idea) is closing its 3G services in Delhi from January 3. As a result of the new change, the operator has started asking customers in the Delhi circle to upgrade their current SIM to 4G. This action is part of Vi’s ongoing spectrum re-forming, under which the operator uses its 3G spectrum for 4G services. It has already been placed in Bangalore and Mumbai earlier this month. Vi customers in the capital city need to upgrade their current SIM to 4G by visiting their nearest stores.
To inform consumers about the switch, Gadgets 360 learned it Vi customers started sending SMS message to its customers in Delhi circle. The message asks users to upgrade their SIM to 4G by January 15 to get uninterrupted service on their phones.
While V2G offers voice calling to users who cannot upgrade their SIM to 4G, data services are no longer available on older SIM connections. This change will not affect users who are already using the Vi 4G SIM.
Vi is asking customers to visit their nearest store to upgrade their SIM to 4G to continue data and voice services on their phones.
According to Information Provided by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Vi has over 16.21 million wireless subscribers in the Delhi circle.
